Like most cruise lines, accidents & injuries happen frequently onboard Celebrity cruise lines ships. Celebrity is a subsidiary brand that caters to the higher end market and is fully owned by parent corporation, Royal Caribbean Group. They maintain their global headquarters in the Port of Miami along with their subsidiary big brother RCCL. Not surprisingly, Celebrity also requires all accident cases be filed and litigated in the federal courts of the Southern District of Florida in Miami. Have you been injured while on a Carnival Cruise ship? At Delgado Trial Attorneys, we have been fighting for the rights of injured cruise ship passengers and their families for over 50 years.

Onboard Accidents: Celebrity Cruises
About Celebrity Cruise Line
Celebrity Cruise Lines was founded in 1988 by the family owned Greek Conglomerate Chandris group. In fact, it was created as a high end line catering to the luxury cruise market which was relatively untapped at that time.
Celebrity Cruises was designed to compete with upscale lines like Holland America Lines before the latter was acquired by Carnival Corporation. Initially, it focused on voyages to Bermuda. The luxury cruise market was unchartered territory for Chandris when it launched Celebrity. Previously, Chandris focused on the low end cruise market with its budget line Chandris Fantasy Cruises.
Today, Celebrity operates a fleet of 11 cruise ships around the world. In addition to the 11 ships it currently in service, 3 more next generation ships in the Edge class are on order. In addition, Celebrity has unique rights to operate eco cruises in the Galapagos islands on three vessels called the Xpedition, Xploration and Flora after acquiring tour operator Ocean Adventures in 2016. It expanded guest capacity in the remote island chain by 65%.
Celebrity is the first major cruise line to hire a female CEO and President following the appointment of Lisa Lutoff-Perlo to the position in 2014.

Celebrity cruise lines accidents: do you have a claim?
Every accident is different. Not every fall or injury is grounds for an actionable claim under general maritime law. Injuries are unfortunate, especially on a cruise ship, but for a claim to be warranted, there must be evidence of the cruise line’s negligence. At the end of the day, cruise ships and cruise lines are not insurers so common sense dictates that they do something unreasonable or contribute to causing your accident. That’s why, an experienced cruise ship accident attorney will tell you when an accident was just bad luck or whether it is due to negligence. Without a doubt, knowing the difference is critical to successfully making a cruise ship passenger injury claim against Celebrity Cruise lines.
We have represented passengers injured on Celebrity cruises that have departed from the following ports which all require accident claims to be filed in Miami, Florida:
- Athens (Port of Piraeus), Greece
- Auckland, New Zealand
- Barcelona, Spain
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Cape Liberty, New Jersey
- Fort Lauderdale, Florida
- Lisbon, Portugal
- Los Angeles, California
- Miami, Florida
- Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy
- San Diego, California
- San Juan, Puerto Rico
- Seattle, Washington
- Singapore, Singapore
- Tampa, Florida
- Vancouver, British Columbia
Common injuries and accidents on a Celebrity cruises ship
Passengers who are injured while on a Celebrity Cruise Lines ship, tender, or in port should seek immediate medical attention for their injuries and should promptly report the incident. Many times, cruise lines count on passengers not reporting, and they will use the defense of “lack of reported incident” to fight a claim that is later filed.
Some of the most common accidents that occur on cruise ships include:
- Slip and Falls
- Trip and Falls
- Gangway Accidents
- Unstable/ Worn out Furniture
- Ship movement
- Drownings and Pool Accidents
- Malfunctioning Doors or Equipment
- Tender Mishaps
- Shore Excursion Accidents
Major cruise lines, like Celebrity Cruise Lines owe their passengers a duty of care. This duty of care includes: (1) providing a reasonable amount of security against physical harm, including criminal activity and assault; and (2) they must ensure that the ship and the equipment are in reasonable working condition, and its crew, are adequately trained to perform their assigned tasks respectfully.
